Roman Camp Country House was originally built in 1625 for the Dukes of Perth as a hunting lodge and this property still retains the aura of a bygone era. Surrounded by magnificent gardens and woodland with strolling peacocks it is a haven of peace and tranquillity.
This ambience prevails throughout in the comfort of the public rooms (recently refurbished) with roaring log fires.
Each of the 15 bedrooms have their own distinctive theme – spacious and comfortable with nice ‘extra touches’.
Not many head chefs hold the AA 3 rosette award but Ian McNaught has held this accolade for more years than I care to remember. His technique is brilliant and the flair and imagination comes through in each dish. Well-defined flavours using quality ingredients. Wine cellar of note. Also renowned for their afternoon teas served in the manner that some of us were accustomed to know. (The more mature reader!)
New this year is an informal food and beverage operation located in the spacious garden area (- more relaxed bistro style). An ideal venue for weddings with ample car parking. Just be careful at the entrance from the main street.
Hosts Eric and Marion Brown have been here for over 28 years. A warm welcome awaits. Highly recommended.
(First visited, 1988).
