Once again a warm welcome to STEVENSONS – 2019 – the 24th edition of Scotland’s Good Hotel & Food Book.

A slow start to the season with the 'beast from the east' being followed by glorious weather for most of May, June and July. In fact there was a 'boost' in the domestic market and many chose to holiday 'at home' rather than the continent or beyond. Always an important ingredient, the weather showed Scotland at its very best and my trip around 'the 500' (round the north of the country) was a highlight of my travels this year.

Once again I have showcased some of the very best country houses and restaurants (some with rooms) in the country. I can still see room for improvement with facilities for the disabled (or accessibility). Apparently we are all living longer and many people in this category are in the AB market (disposable income). My personal choice for this year once again includes destinations for the more discerning reader/visitor. Technology may be important (I have my website as well!) but there is no substitute for the 'physical recommendation'.

Grateful to Tony Story, Managing Director of The Kingsmills in Inverness who compiled the main foreword and Steve McLaughlin (Restaurant Andrew Fairlie) for the Food Foreword.

Please visit the News page for an update on staff appointments, general news and activity within the industry.

I celebrate my 25th anniversary with the 2020 edition and look forward to my travels in 2019. I hope you enjoy this 24th edition and my personal selectoin.

Once again I am grateful to my sponsors House of Bruar and Brodies Tea and Coffee for their continued support.
