A stunning country house built in 1869 this was formerly a sporting lodge for Lord Polworth and at present owned by the Duke of Sutherland. Now the home of Bill, Heather and daughter Suzie Walker, well known in the local community.

Outstanding location above the River Tweed with magnificent views over the border countryside. The lodge has 5 exquisite rooms – all with ensuite/private facilities and furnished to a very high standard in keeping with the period of the house. An added attraction is the 3 bedroomed cottage within the grounds (VisitScotland 4 star) which gives one more options on a self catering basis. Guests can stay on a B/B basis or dinner can be included. B.Y.O.B. (No liquor licence).

Having sampled some of the home baking on my visits I would recommend the evening supper/dinner (optional at £28.50 or £35.00 respectively). Both Heather and Suzie are renowned for their culinary expertise – produce from the rich agricultural border region allied with some terrific homebaking.

It’s really a home from home with a wonderful conservatory and well furnished public rooms. Nice friendly ambience prevails throughout. Plenty of places to visit including Melrose Abbey and Abbotsford House, home of Sir Walter Scott. Make a note of this one when visiting the Borders.
