On the outskirts of Oban just beyond the ferry terminal this Georgian House, built in 1780 commands an enviable position overlooking the Oban bay to the islands beyond.

Known to me for many years it is situated in a quiet spot away from the main centre of Oban and retains the charm and elegance of a bygone era.

Under the personal supervision of General Manager Gregor MacKinnon, this small hotel offers every comfort one would expect from a VisitScotland 4 star rating and cuisine to match. Bedrooms are extremely comfortable (some with views over the bay), public rooms are spacious, well furnished and cosy with log fire in the winter.

The talents of head chef Sean Squire and his kitchen brigade are obvious and over the years this has proved to be a wonderful dining experience. Fresh fish (as one would expect) lamb and game in season could be your choice.

Ideal stay for a day journey to the island of Mull or explore the beautiful Argyll coastland north or south of Oban.

Breath-taking views from many points along the way. Always an enjoyable stay over a number of years and still a firm favourite.

Ideally placed for boarding The Hebridean Princess.

Children over 12 welcome.

(First visited, 1989).
