Charismatic owner, Roger Coulthard, has been a permanent fixture in the Edinburgh culinary scene for as long as I can remember.

The name Stac Polly comes from the famous Scottish mountain near Achiltibuie in the North West region of the country.

Scottish fayre at its best with some European influences. Menus are carefully compiled to offer seasonal dishes which have been sourced with care, using good quality suppliers.

Terrific wine cellar. Roger has refurbished the ground floor level and introduced a brasserie with the novelty of a gin and wine bar. The fine dining area remains downstairs.

It takes a lot of stamina to maintain such a good reputation over so many years but Stac Polly has survived where others have failed.

(First visited, 1989).
